Research

My primary research interests lie in the physiology of horses as it specifically is related to the well-being of the performance horse. My research focuses on the study of aging in horses. I have studied the effects of stress on the equine immune system and am interested in the effects of physical and psychological stress on the endocrine and immune response in horses. As Director of the Rutgers Equine Science Center, I also am responsible for ensuring the vitality and sustainability of New Jersey's equine industry.

Plasma -endorphin, cortisol, and immune responses to acute exercise are altered by age and exercise training in horses

Special Techniques

Radioimmunoassays for somatotropin and insulin growth factor I. In vitro immunological assays.
