4 + 1 Program in Animal Sciences/Endocrinology & Animal Biosciences (BS/MS)

Rutgers University Commencement.

General Information

The 4+1 Program in Animal Sciences/Endocrinology and Animal Biosciences (BS/MS) allows a student who successfully completes a B.S. in Animal Sciences to also complete a non-thesis M.S. in Endocrinology and Animal Bioscience with one additional year of coursework. It is targeted to students in the Pre-Vet/Research and Lab Animal Sciences options. Students in the Companion Animal Science and Equine and Production Animal Science tracks, please contact Dr. Aparna Zama, Undergraduate Program Director, at zama@sebs.rutgers.edu or 848-932-8495.

How to Apply

Students interested in completing the 4+1 program must apply by sending their transcripts, (which should include third-year spring semester grades), CV/resume, and personal statement* (all in one PDF with their name as the file name) to EAB4plus1@sebs.rutgers.edu by the end of the spring semester of their third year of post-secondary study (May 30th). Once approved by the UPD/GPD/EAB Admissions Committee, students can then apply to the School of Graduate Studies through the Graduate and Professional Admissions application portal. (Note: An applicant must indicate they are a current Rutgers undergraduate to see the 5-Year Master's category for Degree Type.)

* The personal statement (up to 1,000 words) should describe the student's academic achievements, research experience, leadership skills, commitment to graduate school, examples illustrating their resilience and adaptability during their education, and how they have contributed to or supported intellectual and/or cultural diversity in higher education and science.

Admission Requirements

By the end of the spring semester of the third year, students must complete specific prerequisites with C's or higher, a total of 90 credits (transfer students: at least 30 credits taken at Rutgers before eligible to apply), and a cumulative GPA of 3.00.

Six to eight credits (two courses) taken during the third or fourth year can be included in the 30 total credits needed for the M.S. However, these credits cannot be counted toward the 120 credits needed to graduate with a B.S.
