Research
My research interests can be grouped into three areas:
- Nutrition changes during the prepartum period for beef cows, sheep, and goats and the impact that can have on the dams, as well as the early development and health of beef calves, lambs, and goat kids
- Expanding the understanding of colostrum quantity, quality, and bioactive compounds in beef cattle, sheep and goats
- Co-product and byproduct feed utilization in ruminant and swine diets. Ultimately, the research that I conduct will be of benefit to farmers in the state.
Extension Programs
As the Livestock and Dairy Extension Specialist of Rutgers, the Land Grant University of New Jersey (NJ), I will conduct research related to animal agriculture and create outreach and Extension programs that serve the needs of New Jerseys farmers. Maintaining economic and environmental sustainability in a densely populated state poses challenges for farmers. To address these challenges, I plan to conduct applied research with co-product and byproduct feeds in both ruminant animals and swine. I also have an interest in investigating nutritional strategies to best target the health of the dam, as well as the development and health of youngstock. I plan to conduct research and create extension programming in collaboration with Rutgers Cooperative Extension faculty and staff, as well as state agricultural staff, the NJ Farm Bureau, and colleagues from industry and other Land Grant universities.
