Swine Practicum (11:067:203)

EBE COURSE (2 credits)

Typically Offered: In the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.

Other Registration Restrictions: Medical clearance to work with animals is required prior to registering. For information on obtaining this clearance, please read our Working With Animals information sheet. Contact Dr. Aparna Zama (zama@sebs.rutgers.edu) with questions.

Format: Times (two, 3-hour blocks per week) to work with Animal Care Program staff. Hands-on experience is obtained by working with staff in the day-to-day care and management of the Rutgers farm swine herd.

Description: Practical experience is provided in the daily care of swine. Formal lectures on animal products/production, nutrition, reproduction, behavior/welfare, health/diseases and field trips supplement and enhance the practical experience.

Examinations: Two graded exams will be given. Please see the syllabus for grading specifics.
