Dairy Cattle Practicum (11:067:201)

Normally Offered: In the Fall and Spring semesters as well as during the Summer Session.

Prerequisites: No prerequisites. Students should contact Ms. Joanne Powell (732-932-4059; jpowell@sebs.rutgers.edu) to receive a Special Permission Number for registration.

Other Registration Restrictions: Medical clearance to work with animals is required prior to registering. Format: Times (two, 3-hour blocks per week) to work with Animal Care Program staff is arranged prior to granting registration permission. Hands-on experience is obtained by working with staff in the day-to-day care and management of the college dairy heifer herd.

Description: Practical experience is provided in the daily care of dairy heifers. Formal lectures on animal products/production, nutrition, reproduction, behavior/welfare, health/diseases and field trips supplement and enhance the practical experience.

Examinations: Students will now receive letter grades when taking this course (no longer pass/no credit). Please see the syllabus below for grading specifics.
