Alum Receives 2007 LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD from the Graduate School - New Brunswick

Animal Science alum Karyn Malinowski, currently Director of Rutgers Cooperative Extension and Director of the Equine Science Center, is the 2007 recipient of the Graduate School–New Brunswick’s LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD. To celebrate this honor, the Graduate Program in Animal Sciences and Rutgers Equine Science Center hosted a reception on March 2 in Bartlett Hall.

The Graduate Program in Endocrinology and Animal Biosciences provides research-oriented training leading to the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in basic and applied animal sciences. Faculty members of this program are part of a large and interactive community of biological scientists at Rutgers University and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, which share the New Brunswick/Piscataway campuses. Faculty at other universities and scientists from pharmaceutical and agricultural corporations serve as adjunct members of the Graduate Program. The program's relatively small size assures that students receive individualized educational programs and ready access to all faculty members. Nonetheless, the graduate curriculum is full and comprehensive, drawn in part from the diverse and extensive course lists of the many other biological programs campus-wide. Recent graduates have successfully moved into postdoctoral and more permanent positions in academic and corporate settings.

The core of the graduate faculty are members of the Department of Animal Sciences. Their major areas of research include endocrinology and growth, equine science, and sustainable animal agriculture. Animal research models include horses, dairy cattle, goats, pigs, sheep, rats, poultry, and lizards. Faculty research laboratories are located in Foran Hall, which is the home of the Biotechnology Center for Agriculture and the Environment, and Bartlett Hall, both of which are located at the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (formerly Cook College), Rutgers' agricultural and environmental college. Additional research facilities are located in the farm facilities of the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station, Cook College.

Graduate students come from throughout the United States as well as Brazil, China, India, and Spain. We welcome enthusiastic and inquisitive individuals from various academic backgrounds. Inquiries about admission requirements and financial aid may be made to the Graduate Program Director or Graduate Program Assistant.
